Description
This pre-owned WESCAM MX-10S, part of the WESCAM MX-10 family, combines high-definition thermal imaging, daylight and low-light cameras, a high-magnification daylight spotter, and an eyesafe laser rangefinder in a compact stabilized turret. Supplied with an MX handcontroller, cable harness, and hard case, it offers multiple imaging channels for observation across changing light conditions.
The WESCAM MX-10 is a compact, single line-replaceable unit (LRU) with electronics integrated inside the turret. The MX-10 platform was designed for low-altitude tactical surveillance and search-and-rescue missions, with installation applications including helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, aerostats, and unmanned aircraft. Installation requires a suitable mount, power supply, and platform integration.

WESCAM MX-10 Thermal, Daylight and Low-Light Imaging
HD thermal imaging: The HDIR option uses a 3–5 µm staring-array thermal sensor with 1280 × 720 resolution. WESCAM lists a continuous horizontal field of view from 30.2° to 2.9°, allowing the operator to transition from a broad scene to a narrower view.
Daylight continuous zoom: Manufacturer specifications list a 1920 × 1080 CMOS daylight sensor with a horizontal field of view from 31.2° to 1.2°.
Low-light continuous zoom: The monochrome low-light channel uses an electron-multiplied CCD, with a listed sensor resolution of 640 × 480 and horizontal field of view from 40.8° to 2.38°.
Daylight spotter: The fixed-focal-length spotter uses a 1920 × 1080 CMOS sensor with a narrow 0.61° horizontal field of view for detailed observation.
These are manufacturer-listed sensor specifications. This unit is configured for 720p digital and NTSC analog video; native sensor resolution should not be confused with the configured video-output format. The listed fields of view apply to 720p operation.
Stabilization, Tracking and Rangefinding
The MX-10 platform uses a four-axis stabilized turret: two inner axes for pitch and yaw, and two outer axes for azimuth and elevation. An internal six-axis passive vibration isolator helps protect the imaging payload from platform vibration. The inertial measurement unit is mounted on the optical bench.
Manufacturer-listed pointing coverage is continuous 360° azimuth and +90° to −120° elevation. This unit includes GEO position auto tracking, field-of-view slaving, and image blending. Its eyesafe laser rangefinder is specified by the manufacturer as a Class 1, 1.54 µm diode-pumped laser with a maximum range of 20 km; actual ranging performance depends on the target and operating conditions.
Dimensions, Power and Interfaces
| Specification | Manufacturer-listed value |
|---|---|
| Turret dimensions | 10.24 in diameter × 13.98 in high (260 × 355 mm) |
| Turret weight | Less than 38 lb in the manufacturer’s all-sensor configuration; supplied assembly not independently weighed |
| Power input | 28 VDC; 4 A steady state, 10 A maximum; MIL-STD-704E |
| MX handcontroller | 2.2 lb (1.0 kg); 4.25 × 8.97 × 3.00 in; powered by turret, 5 W maximum |
| Video architecture | Built-in video switch matrix with digital HD-SDI and analog outputs; supplied configuration is 720p digital and NTSC analog |
Side-mounted connectors support installation flexibility. Platform interfaces and external integrations should be confirmed for the intended aircraft or installation.
